What I Loved About The Wedding Planners Conference – Toronto

The blingy linens.

The consistency of theming of the workshop– rose and gold throughout, even in the food & beverage.

PicMonkey Collage

The hash tag, #shineon was unique – eventually it became personal

The personalization of the hosts. Introducing the speakers. Walking the floor with the microphone – I felt like I was at a party held by Danielle & Tracey, not an impersonal conference.

The speakers – I never heard of any of them before the conference (yes, even the amahzing Ms. Diann Valentine). I will forget none of them.

SPEAKERS

The pampering.

Everything was included. Coffee on arrival, 2 breaks, 3 –course lunch, champagne, manual, pens, certificate of attendance, swag bag, coat-check. Nothing was forgotten. Attention to detail was on point.

Coffe break

The intimacy. I watched speakers mix, mingle (liming really) with us, the attendees….probably because they were experts but not egos.

Accessibility to the headline speaker– I just wanted a photo with her, she wanted to talk and know who I was… I didn’t want to dominate her time, but she was chatting and engaging on a personal level with everyone she chatted with. I watched her and listened – it was sincere.

Catching up and making new business friends.

It was in Canada. I go to a lot of conferences in the USA but I was happy to attend this one. For what was included, I don’t think you could get much more in terms of value.

What I Learnt At Wedding MBA 2014

20140916_141859This is an overdue post about my recent trip to Las Vegas and share all the exciting things I learnt attending a conference in the wedding capital of the globe.

I learnt that it wasn’t the wisest idea to go to a wedding conference at the beginning of my short vacation. As a result, I was exhausted from a non-stop year of weddings and events. I missed all the great social aspects at night so that I could stay awake during the information-packed workshops.

I learnt that an android phone is no substitute for a DSLR camera – and my busted camera lens will capture blurred images and miss some interesting moments of my trip!

BlurredBlurred220140915_235459

I learnt that Wedding MBA is a digital, techie, business event/entrepreneurs’ conference with some wedding stuff too! But it is not an exhibition of dreamy décor and tablescapes – that’s another show.

I learnt that you could get married in Vegas for US$65 in about 6 minutes. After viewing the “drive-thru wedding chapel” and meeting one the Elvis impersonators who could serenade couples for an extra couple hundred bucks – I was a bit dismayed, is this really what my clients want when they get married??

I learnt anything on wheels can be converted – sorry – pimped out and it is surreal to ride around the strip in Vegas in a converted armoured van.

Pimpedout Pimpedout2Pimpedout5Pimpedout3

I learnt that you could have a chauffer who may also be a pole dancer, and that’s ok, because it is Vegas.

I learnt that I will sleep for 2 days before I go to Vegas so that I do not miss the parties – I still cannot fathom that I missed the parties!!

I learnt that you should rent a car if you want to go off the strip in Vegas or that you can roam the desert waiting for a taxi that does not show up and running/limping for the bus to get back to the strip.

So what does this have to do with your wedding? A lot, or maybe nothing at all, depending on who you are. But for those of you who value the fact that I am continually investing into learning more about the art of weddings it should mean that one of the biggest events you plan to host is in safe and capable hands.

So I have to ask –Is there any value for you to hire a certified, experienced event & wedding professional for your wedding day?

That’s what I learnt at Wedding MBA!  Re-align and focus our services ONLY to the clients who can emphatically say “Yes” to that question.

Vendor Spotlight – Petals Paradise Barbados

What is your wish list for your wedding as it relates to decor and florals  Something classy?   Unique?   Out-of-thebox?    Elegant?    Sophisticated? Statement piece?   All of these words and phrases are synonymous when you mention decor and floral design done by Petals Paradise.

Group Shot

We, the Wedding Coordinators of Soulmates Barbados met up with Mr. Robert Carter, the brainchild and owner of Petals Paradise.   It was evident, from engaging in conversation with him, his innate passion and love for decor could be clearly heard; transforming a simple space into something which is absolutely stunning, by adding his impeccable creativity and artistic flair.

Inventory

Robert took us on a tour to show us in detail what his company has to offer our very special brides and clients.   To say the least, we were bowled over by the extensive variety of items….our ocular nerves were over stimulated!   We all felt like children in a never ending candy store.   There were chandeliers in all shapes and sizes, candelabras, remote operated real drip wax candles with LED lights, pillar candles, unique votive holders, bouquet accents, exquisite vases in various colours, styles and heights.   Wire cage candle holders, not the normal run-of-the-mill chargers, crystal lamps, a vast array of accents that would take decor to another level, and we could go on!

Vases

Robert noted that he loves to please his clients, and if there was something in particular a client wanted that wasn’t in his collection, or there was an element he wanted to add and didn’t have; once he has enough time, he would source and acquire the said items once they can be found and are available.

It surely was an amazing tour and we invite you to have a look at a snapshot of what we saw and some images of work he would have created.

Enjoy!
